Who’s ready for some wheelin’… it’s been way too long!! The only good thing about not being out in a while is that….. wait there’s nothing good about that. Trail reports have been nothing but dust storms, but I have a feeling the rain is coming and the rivers will be a swellin’.
I have been sitting around, admiring my Classic in all her broken glory and then I think to myself…..better get to wrenching baby! We got a Rally coming up!!!…..and you know she’s got to be running for Richloam!
The Low Down:
As usual, we will have trails for trucks of all shapes and sizes. We will have beginner trails; we will have not beginner trails. We will have trails with headlight deep ruts. We will have trails that will make one strut. Trails with door handle deep water. You will wish you had gone. You know you aught to. Dr. Seuss, I don’t think so. But put on a Great Rally, that’s foooorrrrrr SURE!!
Seriously, if the weather brings Richloam rain over the next couple months, we will be in for some real fun. Most of us have been out there and you know what I’m talking about. When Richloam is wet, there is no better place to wheel. We’ve almost flipped a couple rigs out there in the super deep ruts (Me and Sean). Almost hydro locked our junk (UHH Everyone!!). When Gordo and I first went out there, we hydro locked his Classic so bad; we went through 2 batteries blowing out all the water. We got her started though. It is a fun place…. Richloam has some of the best trails in Florida. I’m a mud and water kind of guy, so that’s a biased opinion. The beginner trails are hard to find, but this being our third Rally out there, we know where they are. We’ll find some knew ones too! It’s going to be great!
Stephen Peters will be the appointed Rally Master. He will assume all the duties for which that position calls, such as scouting trails, calling a few sponsors, and scouting some more trails. Where do I sign up for that gig? In all seriousness, Stephen has stepped up and will be contributing greatly. I really appreciate it. Seek him out at the Rally and give him a big HELLL YEAHHH!!!
Campgrounds: Silver Lake, and if needed for overflow purposes:Crooked River.
This may change to Silver Lake which is right next door. Check back as we get closer. The campground is located about 3 miles off Hwy 50 and Croom Rital Road.
There are three campgrounds all in the same area. We will be staying at Silver Lake
with Crooked River being the overflow. This is a first come, first serve facility. Pets are allowed at some of the campgrounds.
The campgrounds do have amenities and are approximately 15 minutes from the first trial.
Directions to Silver Lake Campground
Head North from Tampa on I-75.
Exit at State Road 50 (SR50) near Brooksville.
Head East for one mile.
Turn left (North) at Croom Rital Road(this is where the Florida Trail overpass crosses SR50).
Where Croom Rital road hits the interstate, turn Right at the Silver Lake/Cypress Glenn/Crooked River campground sign.
Rally Costs:
The Rally Fee (a.k.a "T-shirt fee") is $15 which buys you a rally T-shirt and sticker (both designed by Gordo and Myself), your Vehicle Participation Windshield Sticker and all the Rover fellowship you can muster. You will also be able to partake in our infamous kick ARSH raffle to win some awesome off-road equipment supplied by our sponsors (see above for sponsor list). Also, expect our usual Saturday evening Rover-Barbeque-Dinner ($10 per person) just before the raffle and club business.
Rally Notes We will be having mandatory drivers meetings this year. They will be held Friday around 6:30PM and Saturday around 9:30AM. We feel this is a necessity and will go a long way in solidifying our relationship with the Forestry Personnel. Also, each trail ride will be headed by the trail leader. This person will be responsible for the members on their outing. Please listen and respect this person. He/She can get you booted off the trail run.
