Where the Blacktop Ends…………the Rover Begins!!!

Please Note:Rovers Only at the rally.

Holy chicken cacciatore, its Spring already!

I’m just now recovering from the Fall Rally. I’ve only had the truck back together for a month now and…Osceola again! Oh mama! We had a bang out time there last Spring Rally and I can’t wait for this one. I have the infamous Maynard’s hole on my mind….Can I get a YEEEE HAWWWW!!!!!!!!! There will be two Rally Masters for this event. First being veteran Rally Master Marc Kazmierski. Kaz has done this event four years running and I for one am very grateful to have him take the reigns again this year. Jake Krug, one of the original members of the club will be giving him a hand. Marc and Jake know Osceola so we are in great hands.

As usual, we will have trails to challenge all skill levels. If you want to get totally insane, we will lead the way. And if you get stuck, no problem we’ll get you out! We will have beginner/intermediate trails so even the stock Rovers will have a blast. A good time will be had by all. We will be camping at Ocean Pond campground in Olustee. This is a state run waterfront campground equipped with new facilities and waterfront campsites. There are full hook-up sites, water-only sites and tent sites, available on a first come, first serve basis. No reservations are allowed. The campground has 67 sites total. If needed, additional overflow camping is available at Hog Pen campground, just a few miles down the road. Although Hog Pen is also a waterfront campsite, it is primitive camping with no showers, electric or water.

Fees and Specifics
The Rally officially starts at noon on Friday. Registration will be Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. We will have two Mandatory drivers meetings. One Friday Night and the other Saturday Morning. The Rally fee is $15 per vehicle for members and $30 for non-members. Non-members are encouraged to join the club. The Rally fee includes a t-shirt and a sticker. Additional shirts can be purchased for $10 each. If you are an existing member and have not paid your 2006 membership dues, we will be collecting them at the registration booth.

The camping fees for Ocean Pond are as follows, and must be paid directly to the on-site host upon arrival: Full hook-ups - $18 a night, water only - $12 a night, tent sites - $8 a night. A maximum of 5 people are allowed to camp in a single campsite. Each site has a lantern post, picnic table, and fire ring, with convenient access to drinking water, restrooms and showers. Most sites have tent pads; many also have room for various size trailers. I think the camping fee for Hog Pen is $8 per night, also no reservations. Please be sure to leave a clean campsite behind on Sunday.

There will be trail rides all weekend long. An itinerary will be posted in the upcoming weeks so keep checking back to the site. We encourage you to go out with the scheduled trial rides and try not to venture out on your own. If you do, please go with at least two other vehicles and stay on the designated trails.

The traditional Saturday night BBQ dinner will be $10 per person, kids under 10 are free. A short club meeting will follow and then….we will have a kickin RAFFLE. I assure you it will top the Fall raffle. The Rally officially ends at noon on Sunday.

Directions
The Ocean Pond campground is located outside of Olustee, just off Highway 90 about twelve miles east of Lake City. Take exit 324 off of I-10 and head West on US 90. Go about 5 miles and turn right (north) onto CR 250A (there is a sign for Ocean Pond campground, GPS N30 12.382 - W82 24.599). The entrance to Ocean Pond is a couple of miles down on the left, past FR 266 (look for the 'campground' sign, GPS N30 14.900 - W82 26.412). Please check the club website message board for last minute changes and details. Please feel free to post any questions to the board, or call me. My contact info is below.

Happy Wheelin!!

Mike
