It was a great start for the new year. 16 vehicles met at the intersection of
US 98 and I-4 in Lakeland. We had everything from early series trucks to a late
model Range Rover, and everything in between.
Everyone was excited to spend some time with Rover enthusiasts, some Rovers
were showing up as early as 8:00 am. After a whole bunch of hellos, 'when'd you
put that on?'s, and 'show me your supercharger!'s, we were off to Richloam
State Forest by about 9:30 am.
The day was a little slow going at first, trying to find fun mud in this dry
Florida winter takes some time, but by the end of the day not a rover left the
woods without badly needing a washing (some inside as well as out). Along the
power lines we managed to find some deep mud puddles, which stalled more than
one in the group. But it was fun to get dirty.
The only incidents of the day were quite a few stuck vehicles, (myself twice)
Jake's RR classic getting a mouth full of mud puddle and requiring some drying
out, (I'm sure Merv's drive by didn't help!) and my flat tire.
As always, one of the best part of these events is the trail side conversation
with like minded people. It's great opportunity to catch up with old friends
and make some new ones. I had great time.
